Little Women (1994)
It strays a bit from the book. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed all the characters. They are their own versions. Knowing beforehand what happens was a great opportunity to sit back and see how the movie flowed towards each crucial moment. Claire Danes’ Beth was poignant. I was genuinely attached. I liked Winona Ryder’s Joe though at points her English went a little awry. Kirsten’s Amy was brilliant! We just didn’t get to know the older Amy that well. Meg really was the wise, older sister.

Teddy. Laurie. Christian Bale’s Theodore Laurence was true to the book. The sly humored, pure hearted, childishly gorgeous gentleman was played well. Though I do feel nearing the end when Laurie is at a standstill in life, the slyness edged on creepy. The childlike innocence had become foggy like a window covered with dew.
From another perspective, I feel the change in Laurie’s character could have been more elaborately represented. 800 pages in 2 hours was definitely a speed-ride.
Final thoughts? All’s well that ends well.
